A pedestrian freed from under a car by Atlantic City police was released from the hospital, police said.
Sgt. Christian Garofalo was on patrol at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, when he found two female pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle at Albany and Winchester avenues, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.
Henry R. Kramarski, 83, of Margate, has been turning onto Albany from Winchester and struck the mother and daughter who were crossing at the crosswalk, McMenamin said. It was at the height of the snow squall and visibility was bad, she said.
Kramarski stopped and the mother, a 46-year-old woman from Atlantic City, was pinned under the front driver's side of the vehicle. Garofalo and crash investigator Officer John Waddell came to the women's aid and the Fire Department's Heavy Rescue Unit was called.
But due to the urgency and the woman's pain, Garofalo, Waddell and Officers Matthew Rogers and Bryant Mitchell lifted the vehicle off the woman, McMenamin said.
The woman's daughter, 19, also of Atlantic City, was knocked down and hurt her knee.
Both women were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where they were treated and released.
The crash remains under investigation by Officer Steve Cupani.
