EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- An Indiana state trooper revived the driver of a doughnut delivery truck by administering glucose after he apparently slipped into a diabetic coma and drove off the roadway early Monday.
Trooper Korey Mauck was patrolling SR 62 about 12:30 a.m. in western Vanderburgh County when he noticed a 2012 GMC truck stopped in the median and partially in the westbound passing lane near the Posey County line.
The trooper approached the vehicle and attempted to communicate with the 35-year-old driver from Henderson, Ky., but he only stared at Mauck and did not speak. The driver had his foot on the brake, but the truck was still in gear, according to a state police report. Mauck, though, was able to reach into the vehicle and shift it into park.
Trooper Wes Kuykendall and a Vanderburgh County deputy soon arrived to assist Mauck, and suspecting the driver was diabetic, they administered a tube of glucose. Within a few minutes the driver started to respond to the troopers' questions.
Perry Township Fire Department and an ambulance arrived soon and continued to treat the driver. He was transported to Deaconess Hospital where he was examined and later released.
The driver, whose name was not available, was delivering Krispy Kreme doughnuts to area gas stations when he became unresponsive and drove his vehicle off the roadway, according to the report.
