N.J. Police Officer Seriously Injured in During Training at Gun Range

A Haledon police firearms instructor suffered an "accidental discharge injury" while attending training at Passaic County's police shooting range and is in serious but stable condition.

A Haledon police officer is in serious but stable condition Tuesday after suffering an injury during training at the Passaic County Police Academy Shooting Range, officials with the department said.

Deputy Chief of the Haledon Police Department George Guzman said Tuesday that a firearms instructor with the department suffered an “accidental discharge injury” while attending training at the academy.

The officer was immediately transported to St. Joseph’s University Trauma Center for treatment.

Police declined to share details on the incident and directed questions to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officials with the prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
