Police snipers from departments around the United States have converged in Colorado to as part of their crisis-response training.
Folsom Field at the University of Colorado Boulder has been the setting for the exercises this week, with 20 officers from parts of Colorado, as well as Las Vegas and Washington, D.C., KUSA-TV reports. The training has centered around how to maintain safety in crowds of thousands of people.
Live ammo is being used in the drills as the participants practice from angles inside the stadium that could resemble potential real-world situations.
"This is just an extension of reality-based training," said Mark Lang, director of sniper training at the Arizona-based Tacflow Academy. "When we provide that, we enable officers to make better decisions and also know how to utilize their resources more appropriately. We really need to strive for making sure we're constantly looking at what can we do to protect the public when they come to big venues like this."
