Two Mississippi police officers saved two people trapped in a car that was caught in flash flooding brought on by Hurricane Ida this week.
The rescue happened in Pascagoula on Tuesday, and a police officer's body camera was able to capture it, the department stated in a social media post. Rising floodwaters in the Gulf Coast city had stranded two people in a car when two officers arrived at the scene.
In the video, the inside of the car is seen quickly filing up with water as the officers brave the flooding to reach the vehicle. With the car sinking into the water, the officers pulled the first person from the vehicle and then went back to rescue the second individual.
Both people made it to dry land safely, and the officers were not injured in the rescue.
"We are very #PascagoulaProud of Officer Collier and Sgt. Murphy for their dedication to serve and protect our citizens," the department stated. "Great job team!"
