Laser Technology Inc. developed software code called "Distance Between Cars" (DBC) to provide the police the ability to take accurate time and distance measurements between two vehicles with the UltraLyte 100LR laser. This data allows an objective argument to be made using the vehicle's speed, perception/reaction distance and braking distance to determine a safe following distance. Until now, only visual determinations of vehicle separation rely primarily upon the judgment of the traffic officer.
