Dashcam: Spectators Jump on Cleveland Police Cruiser at Street Takeover

Oct. 8, 2024
"I've got people jumping on my car!": Cleveland police release dashboard camera footage of a recent street takeover in which participants attacked an officer's cruiser.

As Cleveland police investigate a series of chaotic street takeovers across the city late last month, officials released dashboard camera footage from one incident involving participants jumping on the hood of an officer's cruiser.

The recent rash of illegal sideshows involving large crowds and drivers performing doughnuts and other stunts happened between Sept. 28 and 29. Last week, police announced the creation of a task force investigating the incidents.

In dashcam footage released this week, an officer is seen responding to a street takeover shortly before midnight Sept. 28 on the city's east side, WEWS-TV reports. As the officer reaches a congested intersection, another vehicle begins to drift around the cruiser.

The officer can be heard ordering spectators to move, but they continue to mill about and record events on their phones. Eventually, participants jump on the cruiser's hood, and one individual pounded on the vehicle.

“Hey, I’ve got people jumping on my car!" the officer radioed to dispatchers. "Get me cars up here now!"

The footage ends with another cruiser arriving at the scene, and the original officer briefly pursuing two vehicles that fled the intersection.
