Florida Police Officer Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Lakeland Police Officer Paul Dunn was operating his department-issued motorcycle when he was killed in crash Thursday morning in unincorporated Polk County.

LAKELAND, Florida -- A Lakeland police officer on a police motorcycle was killed in crash Thursday morning in unincorporated Polk County.

Paul Dunn, 50, was on his way to work at about 5:45 a.m. in a northbound lane on Lakeland Highlands Road, according to PCSO spokesman Brian Bruchey.

Dunn’s motorcycle collided with a concrete median between the north and southbound lanes, Bruchey said.

Dunn lost control, rode over the median and came to rest in the northbound roadway.

He was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center and pronounced dead at at 6:53 a.m.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident. Deputies were not immediately aware whether another vehicle was involved.
