A flood-ravaged Kentucky police department is receiving some much-needed help from out-of-state colleagues in the form of patrol vehicles.
Last week, the Whitesburg Police Department lost at least seven cruisers because of the flooding throughout the state, WCHS-TV reports. After the loss of that important equipment, Assistant Chief Justin Hunsucker reached out for help over social media.
"I know it may be a long shot but we are desperate for police cars …," he wrote. "If any departments can loan, donate, or sell us a few cars it would be appreciated."
Hunsucker's long shot paid off. The Gallatin Police Department in Tennessee reached out and loaned four cruisers, while the Coal Run Police Department, located about 50 miles away, helped with a Humvee.
But the support hasn't stopped there. Two West Virginia agencies also came to Whitesburg's aid, with the City of Hurricane and the Boone County Sheriff's Office sending cruisers.
"That’s the beauty of living in southern West Virginia, more specifically in Boone County,” Sheriff Chad Barker told WCHS. “People always come together. People always have their way of showing their support whether it be through water, cleaning supplies, vehicles or whatever is needed. Our folks always band together and do the right thing.”
