Ala. Police Officer Injured in Chase Across Multiple Counties

Nov. 21, 2022
A Calera police officer will need surgery for injuries suffered during the pursuit of a felony suspect that started in Vestavia Hills and ended in Chilton County.

A Calera police officer was injured during a multi-agency chase overnight that spanned several counties.

Authorities said the pursuit began in Vestavia Hills and traveled along Interstate 65. It ended in Chilton County between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. with two suspects arrested.

Calera police Chief David Hyche said one of his officers was injured during the pursuit. The officer’s injury is not life-threatening but will require surgery.

The injured officer, Hyche said, is one of the department’s newer officers.

“While staffing is a problem with police departments all over the state, our young officers we are hiring are exceptional,’’ the chief said.

Efforts to obtain more information from Vestavia Hills police about the chase and the suspects weren’t immediately successful.
