During Monday’s storm in Hampton, a falling tree hit a police search and rescue truck as two officers drove along Beach Road to check for flooding.

The Hampton Police Division posted a photo on Facebook showing a large tree limb stuck in the shattered windshield, inches from where one officer was seated.

The tree fell into the vehicle at about 11 a.m., just south of the Grandview Nature Preserve. “It stopped before it hit them,” quipped Hampton Police spokesman Cpl. Ernest Williams.

“Two of our officers had a close call with a falling tree during today’s storm,” the department’s Facebook post said. “We’re thankful they walked away with only minor injuries from glass. Use extra caution when traveling today!”
