A man who led the Massachusetts State Police on a car chase north of Boston Tuesday morning attempted to fight troopers before being tased and taken into custody at an Everett casino, authorities said.

Multiple police cruisers and civilian cars were hit during the car chase through Revere, Chelsea and Everett, the state police said. The man was ultimately cornered at the Encore Casino in Everett, tased and arrested.

The chase began around 7:15 a.m. after a trooper attempted to check on the man, who police said was outside his parked car on the ramp between Route 60 and Route 1 south in Revere. The man was “possibly emotionally disturbed,” the trooper reported.

Officials said the man re-entered his car and drove onto Route 1 south, where police followed and attempted to pull the man over. The driver refused to stop, police said.

State police called off the chase after the man hit a car on Carter Street in Chelsea. But when the man drove down a dead-end street, troopers responding to the area attempted to box him in.

As he eluded officers, the man hit three state police cruisers, Chelsea and Everett police cruisers, and several civilian cars, police said.

Police said the man drove onto the grounds of the Encore Casino, where troopers cornered him. After getting out of his car, the man attempted to fight two troopers. A video captured by a Boston 25 helicopter showed the moment the two troopers confronted the man outside the casino.

He was tased, placed under arrest and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for evaluation, officials said.

Officials said more details regarding the car chase would be available later Tuesday.
