A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was injured while driving on the 57 Freeway in Diamond Bar on Wednesday evening, April 27, after a padlock struck and damaged the windshield of a sheriff’s vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The incident happened at about 7:05 p.m. Wednesday on the northbound 57 Freeway near Pathfinder Road, said Deputy Miguel Meza-Palomo, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department. Two Metrolink deputies were driving when the padlock came from a vehicle travelling southbound on the 57, the Sheriff’s Department said.

“(A deputy) saw the vehicle toss something at their vehicle,” Meza-Palomo said.

The impact “shattered” the windshield and broken glass injured the deputy, Meza-Palomo said. It wasn’t immediately clear which deputy was injured or what the extent of their injuries was.

No suspect information was available, Meza-Palomo said.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, Deputy David Yoo said.
