A St. Louis police officer crashed into a bar after swerving to avoid a dog and losing control of the cruiser, which slammed into the business' front door, according to the owner.

A St. Louis police cruiser crashed into a bar early Monday after swerving to avoid a dog, according to a witness.

The crash happened at around 12:30 a.m., KDSK-TV reports. A St. Louis police SUV crashed into the front door of Bar:PM, shattering glass and bending the entrance frame.

The crash woke the bar's owners, who live above the business. According to one of the owners, police said the officer swerved to avoid hitting a dog, lost control of the cruiser and crashed into the building.

"I was actually already in bed. I heard a loud boom," the owner told KDSK. "I jumped up thinking it was an accident with a vehicle. And then, I saw it, and it was a St. Louis City Police Department vehicle in the front of our building."
