2 Mich. Police Officers Critically Injured in Collision with Other Vehicle

A Warren police officer was trapped in a cruiser and needed to be extricated from a cruiser following a crash that injured another officer and left two other people dead.

Two Michigan police officers are in critical condition following a fatal collision early Monday.

The crash happened between a Warren police cruiser and a Dodge Durango, WXYZ-TV reports. No details were released about how the collision, but police said the cruiser was not involved in a chase.

Two people in the Durango died in the crash. Emergency crews had to extricate one of the officers, who was trapped inside the cruiser.

The officers were rushed to the hospital, and they are in critical condition.

"It's a hard day here at the police department this morning," Lt. Gajewski said. "We want to get to the bottom of this like everybody, we're looking to get more resources to the scene so that we can have a comprehensive analysis of what exactly happened prior to this."

The crash is under investigation.
