Critically Injured Fla. Deputy Rescued from Submerged Vehicle

Oct. 22, 2024
A Pasco County sheriff's deputy and a Dade City police officer were out assessing flooding in the area when the vehicle they were in overturned and became submerged in water, trapping the deputy inside.

Bystanders helped a critically injured Florida deputy who was trapped in a cruiser that flipped over and was submerged in floodwaters last week.

The incident happened Friday when a Pasco County sheriff's deputy and a Dade police officer were checking flooding in the area, the sheriff's office stated in a social media post. While they were driving, their cruiser overturned and became submerged in water.

The Dade City officer was able to escape the vehicle, but the deputy remained trapped. Helped by citizens at the scene, the officer freed the deputy, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

No details were released concerning what led to the crash or the nature of the deputy's injuries.
