Video: Suspect Tells Fla. Deputy to Lock Doors Before Stealing Cruiser

Oct. 31, 2024
A suspect who requested medical help after taking drugs warned a Marion County Sheriff's Office corporal that he likes to steal cars before taking off with the deputy's cruiser.

A suspect who told Florida deputies to keep their doors locked because he liked to steal cars followed through on his warning when he took off with a cruiser.

The brazen theft happened when a Marion County Sheriff's Office corporal responded to a suspicious incident in Ocala, WFTV-TV reports. At the scene, a man—identified as James Brady, 41—told the corporal that he had taken drugs and needed medical assistance.

While requesting help, Brady also provided a curious warning.

“You better have your doors locked. I like to steal cars. Just ask your boss about that,” he said.

Brady jumped up from laying down on the grass and made a break for the cruiser. Once inside the vehicle, he was able to take off and lead deputies on a chase.

The pursuit ended outside Ocala when a deputy performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect's vehicle. Brady was taken into custody and booked into jail.
