MYSTIC, CT — Groton police said an officer was injured after a drunk driver going the wrong way struck their cruiser on New Year's Eve.
The cop was parked at a School Street intersection after an unrelated traffic stop when their car was struck on the front passenger side, police said.
Police said Kara Porter, a 25-year-old Waterford woman, struck the officer's cruiser while driving west in the east lane of Noank Road. Porter had also been driving in the shoulder and sidewalk while using her phone, police said.
The cop suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police, and was subsequently transported Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
Police said Porter, who was uninjured, failed the field sobriety test and was transported back to police headquarters. Porter had also given breath samples that were over twice the legal limit, police said.
Police said Porter was charged with operating under the influence, failing to maintain lane, operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone, operating a motor vehicle on a sidewalk and reckless driving.
Porter was held on a cash/surety bond, according to police, but there was no immediate information on what her bond was set at.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Groton Police Department at 860-441-6712.
