Two San Francisco police officers were injured after crashing their patrol cruiser into a building during a frenetic pursuit early Monday morning, officials at the police department said.
The chase began at 3:20 a.m. near Ninth and Howard streets in SoMa, where police spotted a driver who was maneuvering "recklessly and committing multiple traffic violations," representatives of the department said in a statement. Recognizing the vehicle as one that allegedly fled from law enforcement a day earlier, the officers tried to pull the driver over, giving chase when the person evaded them again.
Police trailed the vehicle to San Bruno and Paul avenues, where it struck a pole as the police car collided into a building. Two suspects got out of the car and ran, with officers following and ultimately overtaking them. The officers detained the two people, whose names have not been released. "without further incident," the statement said.
Investigators also allegedly seized a gun from the scene.
Both officers and the two suspects were transported to nearby hospitals, where the suspects were evaluated while the officers received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
