Two Charlotte-Meckenburg police officers were hospitalized early Sunday after being injured in a hit-and-run crash near Bojangles Coliseum, according to investigators.
Their injuries were non-life threatening, CMPD said in a news release. Identities of the officers have not been released.
The crash occurred just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, and the CMPD SUV was parked at the time, police said in a news release.
“Officers were blocking E. Independence Blvd. near Bojangles Coliseum due to a burst water pipe. Police vehicles had their blue lights activated and were diverting traffic,” CMPD said.
“A 2015 Honda Civic then struck the rear of a marked CMPD vehicle. One officer was inside the police SUV and one officer was standing next to that SUV when they were struck. The Honda became disabled.”
Two of the four people in the Honda took off running, police said.
One was caught and the other remains at large.
The 32-year-old driver, Aaron Sipf, has been charged with felony hit-and-run and resisting an officer, police said.
“It is unknown if impairment was a factor at this time,” CMPD said.
