A Miami-Dade School District police officer and a sheriff’s deputy were injured in a car crash near Liberty City during rush hour late Wednesday afternoon.
Around 4:50 p.m., a Miami-Dade School Board officer was inside his police cruiser working at Miami Northwestern Senior High when an on-duty Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy — part of the robbery intervention detail — crashed into him at the intersection of NW 10th Avenue and NW 67th Street, the sheriff’s office said. The school police cruiser was marked and the deputy’s car was not.
Paramedics took both the officer and the deputy to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. The deputy is in serious but stable condition, said Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez.
The crash is under investigation, and the pair are expected to fully recover, the sheriff’s office said.
