Woman Wanted on Warrants Drags Miss. Police Officer while Fleeing Station

Sept. 6, 2024
A woman fled the Gulfport police station after discovering she was wanted on multiple misdemeanor warrants, dragging an officer as she pulled away and led police on a brief chase.

Authorities chased and arrested a woman who fled the Gulfport Police station early Thursday and dragged a police officer with her car, Gulfport Police said in a news release.

Daronda Monique Jackson, 39, faces one count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Authorities said the incident began after Jackson went to the police station at 2:53 a.m. Thursday "to discuss a hit-and-run incident."

An officer told Jackson authorities had issued her multiple misdemeanor warrants and that she was under arrest, Gulfport Police said.

Police said Jackson told the officer she needed to tell a juvenile who was still in her car. The officer decided to inform the juvenile instead. But Jackson left the police station and got into the driver's seat of her car despite demands from the officer that she leave the vehicle, police said.

Jackson told the officer she would not start the car, but then put the car in reverse, police said. She dragged the officer, hit a sign and fled, according to the news release.

Police said the officer escaped and Jackson was arrested after brief pursuit with Biloxi Police.

She is held in the Harrison County jail on $250,000 bond.
