APCO's New Cybersecurity Resource for Emergency Communications Centers
Alexandria, VA – APCO International has launched a new 9-1-1 cybersecurity section of the APCO website at apcointl.org/cybersecurity. This new resource was designed with the needs of emergency communications centers (ECCs) and today’s cyber threats in mind. The section begins with a straight-forward list of options to follow in the event of a cyberattack, followed by tools and information to keep ECCs as secure as possible. Visitors can also view timely, actionable information, including daily, relevant updates directly from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT).
“It is vital that we keep our members up-to-date on the latest cyber threats that may impact their emergency communications centers,” said Jay English, Chief Technology Officer, APCO International. “This new resource streamlines the information that 9-1-1 professionals need to address current and emerging risks to their operations.”
In addition to APCO and federal cybersecurity resources, two new articles: “Top 5 Cyber Defense Practices for 9-1-1” from the APCO Cybersecurity Committee and “Cybersecurity Is Everyone’s Responsibility” from APCO’s technology team are recommended reads for everyone working in an ECC.
