The Mag EraSURE ME-P3M degausser from Security Engineered Machinery (SEM) rapidly, completely, and permanently removes confidential or highly sensitive information from hard drives and other magnetic media. Ideal for use in offices or in the field where power may not be available, this manual unit is in compliance with National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Defense degaussing requirements.
In approximately 15 seconds, the ME-P3M quietly erases data from longitudinal magnetic recorded (LMR) and perpendicular magnetic recorded (PMR) hard disk drives with nominal coercivity ratings of up to 5300 Oe and magnetic tapes with nominal coercivity ratings of up to 2600 Oe, in accordance with NSA guidelines. It accommodates floppy disks and most desktop and notebook hard drives, including 1.8”, 2.5”, and 3.5” (1” and 1.6” high) HDDs and Rev drives, whether they are functioning or not. Accommodated tape formats include VHS, S-VHS, ½” (type 3480), DLT, LTO, QIC, DAT, 8mm, TRAVAN, and AIT.
An array of permanent, high-energy rare-earth (NdFeB) magnets enables the ME-P3M to completely erase data and timing (servo track) information with 100% certainty (as validated by its NSA approval). The compact unit is suitable for rack mounting or use in tight spaces and can be used continuously because it generates no heat. Options include a mobile variable-height table and a field deployment kit.
The unit is available in North America due to a joint effort by Yamagata Fujitsu Limited, a world leader in hard-drive technology, and SEM, the leading supplier of destruction equipment to the U.S. government for more than 35 years. SEM supplies every American embassy and most U.S. military, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies.
