Mass. Police Officer Dies after Apparent On-Duty Medical Emergency

Somerville Police Officer Randy Isaacs, an Army veteran, had been with the department for 15 years, "bringing laughter to everyone he interacted with," according to the agency.

A Massachusetts police officer died unexpectedly from a medical emergency while on duty earlier this month.

Somerville Police Officer Randy Isaacs, 41, suffered an apparent cardiac event June 19 while in his patrol car, the Boston Globe reports. A cause of death has not been given.

"Officer Isaacs was an integral member of the Somerville Police Department, bringing laughter to everyone he interacted with," the police department said in a statement. "He has brought joy to the members of the Department and the community for 15 years."

"His bright personality has left a deep impact on all that knew him," the department added.

After graduating high school, Isaacs joined the U.S. Army and served in Kosovo. He also was a member of the Army National Guard, and he served tours in Afghanistan while also being a Somerville police office.

"Officer Isaacs is a true American Hero, who dedicated his life to service," the department stated.
