Texas Police Officer Killed after Vehicle Hits Him at Fiery Crash Scene

Aug. 12, 2024
While crews worked to clean up a crashed tractor-trailer that caught fire along Interstate 35W, Fort Worth Police Sgt. Billy Randolph was fatally struck by a vehicle that drove through the scene.

A Texas police officer was killed Monday after being struck by a vehicle while at the scene of a previous crash.

Fort Worth police had responded to a tractor-trailer crash along Interstate 35W that had caught fire and spilled fuel on the roadway, KTVT-TV reports. While crews worked to clean up the spill roughly three hours later, Sgt. Billy Randolph was standing outside his cruiser when another vehicle drove through the scene and struck him, according to a department news release.

Randolph was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

"The Fort Worth Police Department asks everyone to keep the family and friends of Sgt. Randolph in their prayers along with our Fort Worth PD family," the department stated.

It's unclear if the driver of the vehicle faces charges in the incident. Both crashes are under investigation.
