Despite being wounded by gunfire from Knoxville police, a 49-year-old woman brandishing a knife continued to get back up on her feet with her weapon before she was fatally shot.

A woman armed with a knife shot by on Tennessee police Monday continued advancing on officers before she was fatally shot, according to recently released body camera footage.

The shooting happened at about 7:30 a.m. as Knoxville police responded to a call concerning a woman with a knife threatening to harm others, as well as herself, WATE-TV reports. When officers reached the scene, a 49-year-old woman—identified as Shilo Rice—came running out of a house brandishing a knife.

Officers ordered her to stop, but the woman continued charging. That's when police opened fire, striking the woman and knocking her to the ground.

Despite being shot, Rice picked her knife, which she had dropped, and she began to stand up, ignoring officers' command to stay on the ground. Police fired again, and Rice fell to the ground a second time.

While on the ground, Rice grabbed her knife again, and a final shot is fired. Police began performing life-saving measures on the woman, and she was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The shooting is under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
