Lauderhill police officers pulled a 3-year-old autistic girl to safety after she wandered away from her mother and ended up in a lake in a parking lot.
Florida police saved a 3-year-old autistic girl from a lake early Thursday.
The rescued happened at around 1 a.m. in Lauderhill when the girl, who is said to be on the spectrum, wandered away from her mother and ran toward a lake in a parking, WPLG-TV reports. She then ended up in the water and cried for help.
When Lauderhill police responded to an alert from a good Samaritan, they found the girl in waist-deep water. The officers quickly got her to safety, and her parents brought her to the hospital as a precaution.
“Everyone is very distraught right now because of what happened,” the girl's granddaughter told WPLG. “They are very grateful police were able to get her, (that) nothing bad happened to her and that she’s safe.”
