WETHERSFIELD, CT — The Wethersfield Police Department released body-camera footage Monday showing an officer saving a driver from a vehicle engulfed in flames Saturday.
In the video, an officer can be seen running up to the Infiniti Q70 while another uses a fire extinguisher on the flames. The first officer ran up and broke the passenger window and door before pulling the driver out of the vehicle.
The Wethersfield Police Department thanked Officers Farrell and Luna for the rescue.
The crash occurred around 12:10 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of the Berlin Turnpike and Pawtucket Avenue. Medical and fire personnel also responded, and both drivers involved in the crash were taken to a local hospital, according to police.
Police described the drivers' injuries as non-life-threatening.
While investigating the crash, police determined that the Infiniti had been going north on the Berlin Turnpike when it "disregarded the traffic signal" while trying to turn east on Pawtucket Avenue and crashed with a southbound Audi Q8, police said.
Police said they issued an infraction to the driver of the Infiniti for traveling unreasonably fast and failure to obey a control signal, and were continuing to investigate the incident.
