Police are searching for two boys, 9 and 11, last seen with their mother in a gray van in the West Beverly neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A police alert said Jamie Duignan abducted her two sons, Owen and Daniel, around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday near 107th Street and Campbell Avenue and drove off in a gray 2003 Honda Odyssey with an Illinois license plate of 5138379.
However, police said an Amber Alert was not issued because the incident did not meet the criteria. It wasn't clear which of the five requirements for issuing an Amber Alert were not met.
Duignan is a Chicago police officer, according to department sources, as is her husband. A message radioed to officers warned that she may be "combative."
Daniel Duignan was described as 11 years old, 5-foot-3 and weighing 135 pounds. He has green eyes and strawberry blond hair, police said.
Owen is 9 years old, 5-foot-2 and weighs 130 pounds. He has brown eyes and strawberry blond hair.
Both boys have crew cuts.
Police said the three were traveling with the family dog, an "old English bulldog that resembles a boxer breed."
