That deputy is recovering at University of Mississippi Medical Center and expected to be recover after his leg was pinned between the his door and his vehicle, according to WJTV.
"Anytime an officer or a deputy gets injured, you know we’re all a big family so it affects everybody," Rankin County Sheriff's Narcotics Investigator Barry Vaughn said.
Officials said that 29-year-old James Stilwell tried to leave the scene when he injured the deputy. An undercover officer bought pills from Stilwell when the suspect tried to run from police in marked units, striking a deputy's vehicle.
"It's definitely a dangerous situation when you’re dealing with somebody attempting to flee in a vehicle," Vaughn said.
