An image of a seized handgun posted by the Baltimore Police Department is going viral.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of N. Rose Street on March 1 and recovered the loaded gun along with drugs, according to WJZ-TV.

The suspect, 36-year-old Keith Gladden, was taken to the Central Booking and Intake Facility.

The photo of the gun, an antique-looking gun with duct tape on the grip, was shared on the department's Facebook page and was met with a slew of humorous comments.

"Was he attempting to assassinate Lincoln?," one person posted, while another commented, "I was under the impression that John Wilkes Booth was no longer alive."

Following the comments, the police department posted this tongue-in-cheek response:

If it pleases the court, we will ensure we safeguard this firearm and ensure the safety of all in the village of Lord Baltimore.

Whilst this young lad possessed this weapon illegally, his punishment shall not include that of public stoning nor shaming.

He therefore shall be recommended as a candidate for reenactment just up the road in Gettysburg.
