A Texas police officer was critically wounded late Wednesday while responding to a domestic disturbance that left an elderly woman seriously injured.
The incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. when Danbury Police Officer Brandon Turner was sent to the scene of a family dispute, the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office stated in an online post. During the call, Turner was shot by a man identified as Patrick Tatom, 36.
According to KPRC-TV, Turner contacted dispatch to report that he had been shot and to request assistance. By the time backup arrived, Tatom had fled, and officers found an 88-year-old woman—either Tatom's mother or grandmother—injured. It's unclear how the woman was injured in the incident.
An extensive search for Tatom was conducted, with multiple agencies from around the area called in to help. Tatom was finally apprehended shortly before midnight.
Turner and the woman were both rushed to the hospital. An update by the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office stated Turner was in critical but stable condition, and he will need further surgeries.
