A Taser wasn't effective in stopping a suspect accused of trying to break into an Illinois State Police cruiser, and three Beardstown police officers were needed to take him into custody.

BEARDSTOWN, IL — Three officers were needed after a jolt from a Taser failed to deter a naked man seen trying to break into a state police cruiser.

A caller told police Sunday night that a man was trying to break into an Illinois State Police car, according to a Beardstown Police report. Officers said that when they arrived, they found a naked man pulling on the handles of vehicles.

When an officer started questioning the man, he reportedly became combative and began fighting.

The man was Tasered once, but it did little to stop him, according to a police report. Three officers were eventually able to take the man into custody.

Patrick Nshimiyimana, 29, of Beardstown was arrested on three counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer and one count of aggravated battery of a peace officer with injury.

Nshimiyimana was treated at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital before being booked into Morgan County jail at 2:14 a.m. Monday. One officer was also treated for minor injuries.

Nshimiyimana was being held Tuesday in the Morgan County jail. Court information about his case was unavailable Tuesday.
