Woodbury Police Officer Tim Wright is "in good spirits" as he recovers at home after he was stabbed in the neck during a traffic stop, according to an update from the department.

WOODBURY, CT — Police officer Tim Wright, who was stabbed in the neck during a traffic stop Oct. 3, has been released from the hospital and is "in good spirits," the Woodbury Resident State Trooper's office said in a post on Facebook Wednesday night.

"Officer Wright is now home recovering from his injuries and in good spirits. It has been overwhelming to see the support we've received from the community," it said.

In the post, the department also thanked community members who have and sent cards, donations and checked in on Wright since the stabbing.

Wright, who has more than 35 years of law enforcement experience according to the Associated Press, noticed a Jeep Grand Cherokee driving on Main Street in Woodbury that did not have a properly displayed license plate, according to state police.

During the traffic stop, the driver, identified later as Tyler Martin Wilmot, 31, got out of the car and became aggressive and refused to comply with verbal demands, leading to a physical confrontation and the stabbing with a knife, state police said.

State police said Officer John Covello, who arrived during the confrontation, used his Taser to subdue the fleeing Wilmot and then put him in handcuffs.

Wright was unable to speak clearly because of the blood in his throat, prosecutor Don Therkildsen said during Wilmot's appearance in Waterbury Superior Court Oct. 4.

State police said Sgt. Matthew Costella transported Wright to Waterbury Hospital because it was not clear when medical personnel would arrive, and Therkildsen said an emergency medical technician then met the officers on their way to the hospital.

Wilmot is being held on $3 million bail.
