Revived Overdose Victim Steals Texas Police Cruiser, Crashes into Creek

Oct. 7, 2024
Laredo police responded to an overdose call, and after the victim was given Narcan, he got into a sergeant's cruiser and sped away before driving over a steep cliff and into a creek.

A revived overdose victim who stole a patrol unit and crashed it into a creek is facing felony charges, according to Laredo police.

Felipe Aguero, 21, was recently served with arrest warrants charging him with evading arrest with a vehicle, a third degree felony; theft of property, a third degree felony; and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state jail felony.

Officers responded to an overdose call at about 11:41 p.m. Sept. 18 in the intersection of Mercer Street and North Canada Avenue.

While officers secured the scene, Laredo Fire Department crews arrived and rendered aid to a man identified as Aguero. Paramedics provided Narcan to Aguero, states an arrest affidavit.

Aguero recovered from the overdose, vomited profusely and started running west on Mercer. Aguero then got into a sergeant's marked patrol unit and reversed, according to court documents.

Aguero then turned south on New York Avenue, drove the LPD marked unit for about a block and then went into a steep cliff and into a creek, the affidavit states.

Aguero then abandoned the wrecked LPD unit and fled on foot. With the assistance of the U.S. Border Patrol, police attempted to locate Aguero to no avail. He was encountered on Sept. 24 and taken into custody on a separate drug possession charge.
