California police used a PIT maneuver to end a wild high-speed chase with a stolen Tesla late Tuesday.
The incident happened just after 10 p.m. when a Tesla Model S that had been reported stolen was spotted by Hawthorne police, KCBS-TV reports. The suspect fled officers and drove through other neighboring communities via freeways.
The chase reached speeds of over 100 mph, and a Hawthorne police vehicle was involved in a collision during the pursuit. California Highway Patrol took over the chase before the suspect abruptly stopped along the 73 Freeway in Newport Beach.
A standoff between police and the suspect ensued. Several times, the suspect got out of the car, and at one point, he appeared to place clothes on the vehicle's roof.
The suspect eventually began driving again, and a CHP officers used a PIT maneuver to stop him. He then was taken into custody.
It's not clear if any officers were injured in the chase.
