FARO® introduced the FARO Freestyle3D Objects handheld 3D scanner for forensic scene capture and documentation. The Freestyle3D Objects is the third product in FARO’s popular Freestyle family of handheld scanners.
Featuring a midrange measurement volume, the Freestyle3D Objects is easier to use than narrow field of view scanners that have high detail but are difficult to handle as the tracking is easily lost, yet provides more detail and precision than large volume hand held scanners.
“Working with our customers in public safety, FARO identified a need to be able to quickly capture hard-to-reach areas and very small details at crash and crime scenes,” stated Joe Arezone, FARO’s Chief Commercial Officer. “With their portability and accuracy, the Freestyle3D handheld scanners are the answer. Evidence can be scanned at close range, with +- 1mm accuracy. Data captured with the Freestyle can also be combined with point clouds that are captured with the FARO Focus Laser Scanner to complete the documentation of a scene.”
With a scan range of 0.3 to 0.8 meters, FARO Freestyle3D Objects is optimized for scanning evidence at close range, such as inside a closet, under furniture, or documenting the inside of a vehicle. The points captured by the device form a high-resolution color point cloud which can be used to view objects captured from any angle, take accurate measurements, and perform analyses.
Once the data captured with the Freestyle is processed with FARO’s SCENE software, the point cloud can also be opened in FARO’s public safety software applications, FARO CrimeZone and FARO Reality. In these programs, the point cloud is used to create accurate, 2D or 3D diagrams and animations for further documenting of a case and creating impactful courtroom presentations.
