San Jose officers shot a man who was "actively firing a firearm" Sunday afternoon, sending the suspect to the hospital with major injuries, the Police Department said.
Officers opened fire while responding to reports of an active shooter on the 2700 block of Kollmar Drive, the department said. Police did not provide details, and the circumstances of the shooting were unclear.
The suspect's injuries were "life threatening," according to police. No officers were struck by gunfire, and the suspect's firearm was recovered at the scene, they said.
Earlier this month two San Jose officers were injured, one critically, after being shot by a suspect who opened fire on the officers at a hotel near the Bernal Plaza shopping center.
