N.Y. Troopers Smash Car Window to Rescue Man after Crash

CORTLANDVILLE, NY — Troopers broke a car window and rescued an unconscious man after a crash on Interstate 81 in Cortland County.
At 7:58 a.m. Monday, a Toyota Camry was traveling south in the right lane on I-81 in Cortlandville when it rear-ended a Honda CRV, said Trooper Aga Tinker, a spokesperson for the State Police. The Camry ended up into the median.
Troopers found a man unconscious but breathing in the Camry, she said. They used a special tool to break the window and rescue the man, she said.
The man, identified as Kenneth G. Thompson, 54 of McDonough, was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, she said. He was later interviewed at the hospital and is receiving more medical care, she said.
The driver of the Honda CRV, Darrell W. Batchelor, 43 of Grand Junction, Colorado and passenger Eddy H. Larson, 60 of Grover, Wyoming were evaluated by EMS but not hospitalized, she said.
